Gas Tax Talk Leads Down the Right Road
|
ron cox
Right on - increased revenues should be specifically earmarked for infrastructure improvements (roads, bridges) as well as alternative transportation fuels e.g biodiesel (algae oil and 2nd generation technology). While your at it - why do we tax the least efficient fuel (gasoline)more than a more efficient fuel (diesel)? STOP distorting consumer choices with irrational tax penalty! [7/2/2009 4:29 PM] |

Hello:
I am the Managing Director of Biz4NJ.com,NJ's Advocate for business.
I liked your case for higher gas taxes in NJ so much that I posted a link to it from our site at; http://www.biz4nj.com/news_detail.php?newsID=16

You failed to mention a few things. For years the gas tax was raided to fund the general budget instead of transportation projects, including the Florio Administration of which Jon Shure was a key member. Conecticut raised the gas tax but removed tolls. Delaware has a higher gas tax but has no sales tax and much lower, if any, corporate taxes. And perhaps you don't understand, no corporation pays taxes! When you levy taxes on a corporation, the cost is simply passed on to the consumer. I remember an old axiom from one of my civics teachers, " Government programs are designed to benefit the PROVIDERS of services, not the RECIPIENTS!". The truth of this statement is evident when we study the goals of NJPP, the Education Law Center, & the NJEA. Help save New Jersey, get a job in the real world and try to provide a product or a real service to the people of our once great state.
ALSO, when you have a spare moment, I will escort you on a tour of our state & show you all the inferior road projects that we have paid for, many with phony cost overruns! I await your reply. [2/29/2008 11:22 AM] |

How about higher registration fees for SUVs which are omnipresent on NJ roads and cause more wear and tear than sedans? Require tracking devices on commercial trucks and charge penalties if trucks travel on roads not permitted by State regulations. [2/13/2008 4:04 PM] |
